PRIMATES- Apes, Monkeys and Prosimians
Primates is the order that contains Humans, Homo sapiens, and its closest relatives. There is no single set of characteristics which all primates possess. Most primates have a large brain, opposable thumbs and fingernails instead of claws. Historically the order was divided into five families: Prosimians, Callitricidae, Cebidae, Cercopithidae and Hominidae. Recently these family have been further divided two suborders and fifteen families. Except for Man all primates are arboreal at some point in their lives. Most primates are herbivores with the Aye-aye being strictly insectivorous and most hominids being omnivorous. There are over 440 living species of living primates Even toda there are new species being discovered .
