Pilosa- Anteaters and Sloths
Along with the Order Cingulata ( armadillos) the Oder Pilosa form the Superorder Xenarthra. This superorder is found only in the Western hemisphere. They are characterized by unique vertebrae possessing an additional process and reduced dentation lacking enamel.
Pilosa contains four families: Cyclopedidae (silky anteater), Mymecophagidae (Giant anteaters and tamanduas), Bradypodidae (three-toed sloths) and Megalonychidae ( Two-toed sloths). Although the two families of sloths look similar in appearance they are not closely related.
