Magellanic Penguins Spheniscus magellanicus IUCN: Near Threatened
Magellanic penguins are a temperate species penguins living off the coast of South America. Like other penguins they are supremely adapted for life in the water. With an aerodynamic torpedo shaped body they literally fly through the water obtaining speeds up to 15 mph. Porpoising, jumping through the air while swimming at high speeds allow penguins to take in air without slowing down.
