HOMINIDAE- Orangutans,Gorillas, Chimpanzee and Bonobos

Hominids are more commonly called great apes. These are the closest living relatives to humans. In fact this is the family in which Man, Homo sapien,  is placed in by taxonomists. Great apes are highly intelligent and with the exception of the orangutan, form complex societies. They are restricted to Africa and Asia and are mainly restricted to tropical areas.
